Dr Kimiora Raerino

Ngāti Awa, Ngāti Rangiwewehi, Kōtimana

Kimiora is a Māori health researcher whose work explores how everyday environments shape Māori wellbeing. Her research spans urban Māori life, from neighbourhoods, streetscapes and transport to marae, cultural landscapes and connections to tribal home. She is particularly interested in the lived experience of place: how Māori move through, gather in, connect with, and make meaning within the environments around them, and what those environments make possible for Māori lives and aspirations. She brings a Māori health and wellbeing lens to conversations about place, infrastructure, design and spatial justice.

When she's not exploring these everyday realities, Kimiora is happily pursuing her other interests. An avid reader of deeply unserious books, gamer, foodie, and lifelong sci-fi fan, she is rarely far from her fully loaded iPad or something good to eat, always ready to disappear into a book, game, or food coma.
