Tūrangawaewae: An ode to Tangowahine

This project explores the significance of tūrangawaewae through a whānau-centred architectural investigation grounded in Tangowahine, Te Tai Tokerau. Drawing on kaupapa Māori methodology, site-based research, and whānau interviews, it examines how connection to whenua, memory, identity, and belonging are formed and sustained across generations. In response, the project imagines future architectural spaces that support gathering, care for whenua, and the continuation of cultural connection. At its heart, the work asks how architecture might help hold and carry relationships to place forward, particularly in the face of change, disconnection, and possible loss.
